EUDR compliance: plot-level traceability and DDS for TRACES NT

Prove that the raw materials in your products are not linked to deforestation. Pixel & Proof links every batch to its exact plots of origin, automatically verifies geolocation, and prepares the due diligence statement for submission.

In brief

What is the EUDR regulation?

EUDR (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products) is a European Union regulation that prohibits operators and traders from placing on the EU market or exporting timber, cocoa, coffee, soy, palm oil, rubber, and cattle — and products made from them — unless they are demonstrably deforestation-free after Dec 31, 2020.

Compliance is demonstrated through due diligence: collecting the geolocation of all plots of origin, assessing risk, and submitting a due diligence statement (DDS) to the TRACES NT system. Pixel & Proof is B2B software that automates this process as part of a supply chain compliance system.

Key facts

  • Regulation: Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (EUDR)
  • Cut-off date: Dec 31, 2020
  • Application: Dec 30, 2026 (large and medium), Jun 30, 2027 (micro and small)
  • Obligated parties: operators and traders placing goods on the EU market or exporting them
  • Key document: due diligence statement (DDS) in TRACES NT
  • Geolocation: polygon for plots larger than 4 ha
  • Penalties: at least up to 4% of annual EU turnover, plus confiscation of goods

Regulatory framework

What does EUDR require from your company?

Goods covered by EUDR may be placed on the EU market or exported only if they are deforestation-free (not produced on land deforested after Dec 31, 2020), produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of production, and covered by a due diligence statement.

Due diligence includes collecting information (including the geolocation of all plots), assessing risk, and measures to mitigate it. For plots larger than 4 ha, geolocation is provided as a polygon. Documentation is retained for at least five years.

How the EUDR module works

From forest plot to verifiable proof

The supply chain of timber and other EUDR commodities in four connected steps — every data point stays tied to its source, from plot geolocation to the due diligence statement.

01 · Source

Forest plot and geolocation

Every plot of origin is recorded as a GPS point or polygon (WGS-84), and satellite analysis verifies forest cover loss after Dec 31, 2020.

The result is a 100% traceable chain: every claim is linked to source evidence that the competent authority, a buyer, or an auditor can independently verify.

Who it is for

A solution for every position in the chain

Operators and importers

Collect supplier data down to the plot level and submit the DDS before customs clearance or export of goods.

Sawmills and processors

Preserve the link to plots of origin through sawing, drying, and further processing — all the way to the finished product.

Traders and distributors

Track suppliers' DDS reference numbers and provide them to competent authorities on request.

EUDR FAQ

EUDR — answers for operators and traders

Does EUDR apply to my company?

EUDR applies to your company if you place on the EU market, distribute on it, or export from it products listed in Annex I of the Regulation — for example logs, sawn timber, furniture, paper, wooden packaging, chocolate, coffee, leather, or tyres. Obligations differ for operators and traders and depend on company size.

What data is needed for a due diligence statement (DDS)?

A DDS requires a description and quantity of the product, the country of production, the geolocation of all plots on which the raw material was produced (a point, or a polygon for plots larger than 4 ha), supplier data, and the risk assessment conclusion that the risk of non-compliance is negligible.

Is mass balance permitted under EUDR?

No. EUDR requires that a product can be linked to exact plots of origin, so mixing compliant and unknown raw material (mass balance) is not acceptable. Pixel & Proof ties every batch to specific plots and tracks it through processing.

How does the software verify deforestation?

For each plot, the platform first checks the validity of the geolocation (WGS-84, topological polygon validation), and then uses satellite analysis to assess whether forest cover was lost after Dec 31, 2020. The result and risk level are recorded against the plot as evidence.

Can the EUDR module be connected to an ERP?

Yes. Delivery note, batch, and supplier data can be exchanged automatically with an ERP system via API keys, without manual re-entry.
